Dabigatran Etexilate is a prodrug that’s converted into its active form, dabigatran, in the body. It’s a direct thrombin inhibitor, meaning it prevents blood clots by directly blocking thrombin, a key enzyme in the clotting process. Dabigatran Etexilate is used to prevent stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, and to prevent blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery.
