Dapagliflozin is used together with proper diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes. It works in the kidneys to prevent the absorption of glucose (blood sugar). This helps lower the blood sugar level. Dapagliflozin does not help patients who have insulin-dependent or type 1 diabetes.
Therapeutic Action
By inhibiting the transporter protein SGLT2 in the kidneys, dapagliflozin reduces renal glucose reabsorption, leading to urinary glucose excretion and a reduction in blood glucose levels.
